Why this balance works
The colour is only useful if the drink still tastes like citrus rather than blue syrup. Lemon provides the sharp edge, orange cordial provides the middle note and club soda keeps the lemon-lime soda from becoming too sweet. Use cold mixers and large ice so the first pour does not lose its bubbles. If your blue syrup is especially sweet, reduce it to a half ounce before increasing the lemon.
Technique to keep
Build the non-carbonated ingredients over ice before the soda goes in. The heavier syrup settles around the cubes and chills first, making it easier to combine with one gentle lift. Pour carbonated mixers slowly and do not shake or stir the glass hard; both drive out the bubbles that make the highball feel light. Splitting the fizz between lemon-lime soda and plain club soda gives control over sweetness without losing the bright colour.
