Virgin Moscow Mule mocktail recipe
Spicy ginger, lime and chilled tea built cold and lively over pebble ice.
Method: Build · Glass: Copper mug or highball glass · Time: 3 minutes · Difficulty: Beginner
Ingredients
- 4 oz chilled spicy ginger beer
- ¾ oz fresh lime juice
- ½ oz strong chilled black tea
- optional ¼ oz simple syrup
- to fill pebble ice
How to make it
- Chill a copper mug or highball and fill it tightly with pebble ice.
- Add lime juice, chilled black tea and simple syrup only if your ginger beer is very dry.
- Top with ginger beer, pouring gently to protect its carbonation.
- Give one short lift from the bottom with a bar spoon.
- Add the lime wheel and mint, then serve immediately.
Garnish
Lime wheel and a small mint sprig
Why this balance works
The point is sharp ginger heat meeting clean lime, not a sweet ginger soda. A small pour of strong black tea gives the drink a dry finish and keeps the ginger from feeling one-dimensional. Start without the optional syrup: many ginger beers already carry enough sugar. If the heat is too aggressive, soften it with a little more ice or sparkling water before reaching for more sweetness.
Technique to keep
Pebble ice chills quickly but also dilutes quickly. Pack it tightly into a cold vessel, use cold ingredients and stir once rather than churning the drink. Ginger beer goes in last; rough stirring strips away the bubbles that make the mule feel lively. The best version is made close to serving, not left on the bar while the ice collapses.
