Ingredients
- 2 oz Añejo Tequila (or reposado)
- 0.25 oz Agave Syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 2 dashes Orange Bitters
How to make a Smoked Tequila Old Fashioned
- Briefly smoke a clean rocks glass with a mild food-safe wood, then cover it.
- Add tequila, agave and bitters to a mixing glass with ice.
- Stir until cold and diluted, then uncover the smoked rocks glass.
- Add one large ice cube, strain in the drink and express an orange peel over the surface.
Garnish
Orange peel.
Pro tip
Keep the smoke restrained. A mild aromatic layer should support aged tequila’s oak and agave rather than overwhelm it.
History of the Smoked Tequila Old Fashioned
The smoked version keeps the Tequila Old Fashioned’s aged-agave structure while using aroma as an additional layer rather than another sweetener.
