Ingredients
- 2 oz Añejo Tequila
- 0.25 oz Agave Syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 1 dash Orange Bitters
How to make a Tequila Old Fashioned
- Add agave syrup and bitters to a rocks glass.
- Add a large ice cube.
- Pour in añejo tequila.
- Stir gently for 20-30 seconds.
- Express an orange peel over the drink and drop it in.

Pro tip
Añejo tequila is key — it has the barrel-aged complexity that makes an Old Fashioned work. Reposado can work in a pinch, but blanco is too sharp for this template. The agave syrup echoes the agave in the tequila.
History of the Tequila Old Fashioned
Part of the broader movement of applying the Old Fashioned template to different base spirits. It gained popularity in the 2010s alongside the rise of premium tequila as a sipping spirit.
