Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Bourbon
- 1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
- 0.5 oz Passion Fruit Syrup
- 0.25 oz Grenadine
- 1 cup Crushed Ice
How to make a Port Light
- Add bourbon, fresh lemon juice, passion fruit syrup and grenadine to a blender jar.
- Add crushed ice and flash blend for about 5 seconds—just until cold and lightly aerated.
- Pour the unstrained drink into a hurricane glass and crown it with a little more crushed ice if needed.
- Garnish with a mint sprig and maraschino cherry, then serve immediately.
Garnish
Mint sprig and maraschino cherry.
Pro tip
Flash blend briefly rather than puréeing the drink. A little texture keeps the tropical sour bright instead of watery.
History of the Port Light
Port Light was created by Sandro Conti for the Kahiki Supper Club in Columbus, Ohio. Its bourbon, lemon, passion fruit and grenadine build is a rare tiki-minded branch of the whiskey sour.
Flavour profile
Bourbon, Passion Fruit, Tropical, Tart
Variations
- Whiskey Sour — Return to the classic bourbon-and-lemon sour.
- Starboard Light — Use blended Scotch, honey and egg white for a silkier tropical sour.
