Ingredients
- 1.5 oz Bourbon
- 0.75 oz Sweet Vermouth
- 0.75 oz Campari
- 2 dashes Chocolate Bitters
How to make a Left Hand
- Add bourbon, vermouth, Campari and chocolate bitters to a mixing glass with ice.
- Stir for 30 seconds until cold and diluted.
- Strain into a chilled coupe or over one large cube in a rocks glass.
- Express an orange peel and place it on the drink.
Garnish
Orange peel, expressed over the drink.
Pro tip
Chocolate bitters should round the Campari, not turn the drink into a dessert cocktail; start with two dashes.
History of the Left Hand
The Left Hand builds on the Boulevardier's whiskey, vermouth and Campari structure with chocolate bitters for cocoa-like depth.
Flavour profile
Bitter, Chocolate, Warm, Orange
Variations
- Boulevardier — Return to the whiskey, vermouth and Campari classic
- Old Pal — Use rye and dry vermouth for a drier, sharper build
- Mezcal Boulevardier — Use mezcal for roasted-agave smoke and bitterness
