Ingredients
- 2 oz Blanco Tequila
- 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- 0.75 oz Agave Syrup
- 1 thin slice Habanero (seeds removed)
- 0.5 oz Orange Liqueur
How to make a Habanero Margarita
- Muddle one thin seeded habanero slice gently in a shaker.
- Add tequila, lime, agave and orange liqueur with ice.
- Shake hard for 12-15 seconds.
- Double strain over fresh ice in a rimmed rocks glass.
Garnish
Thin habanero slice and a chili-salt rim, optional.
Pro tip
Habaneros are significantly hotter than jalapeños. Start with one thin slice and remove all seeds and ribs; you can add more heat, but you cannot take it out.
History of the Habanero Margarita
The Habanero Margarita is a modern chile variation for drinkers who want more aromatic heat than a jalapeño delivers. Agave and lime are essential to keep the pepper vivid rather than punishing.
