Ingredients
- 1 oz Gin (London Dry)
- 1 oz Suze (gentian liqueur)
- 1 oz Lillet Blanc
How to make a White Negroni
- Combine gin, Suze, and Lillet Blanc in a mixing glass.
- Add ice and stir for 30 seconds.
- Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube.
- Express a lemon peel over the drink and drop it in.
Garnish
Lemon twist
Pro tip
Suze is the key ingredient — it provides the bitterness that Campari does in a regular Negroni, but with a gentian (earthy, floral) character instead of orange bitterness. It's a completely different flavor profile.
History of the White Negroni
Created by Wayne Collins in Bordeaux, France in 2001. He wanted to make a Negroni-style drink using French ingredients. Suze (a French gentian aperitif) and Lillet Blanc (a French aromatized wine) replaced the Italian Campari and vermouth.
Flavour profile
Bitter, Floral, Dry, Herbal
Variations
- Classic Negroni — Campari and sweet vermouth for the Italian original
- Sbagliato Bianco — Prosecco instead of gin for a lighter, bubbly version
- White Boulevardier — Bourbon instead of gin with Suze and Lillet
