How to make a Whiskey Smash
- Gently muddle mint leaves in the shaker (press, don't shred).
- Add bourbon, lemon juice, and simple syrup.
- Add ice and shake vigorously for 10 seconds.
- Double strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
- Garnish with a mint sprig — slap it first to release the oils.

Pro tip
Double strain through a fine mesh strainer to catch mint fragments. The drink should be clean and bright, not full of leaf bits.
History of the Whiskey Smash
A modern classic created by bartender Dale DeGroff in the early 2000s. It's essentially a Whiskey Sour with muddled mint — combining the best of a Julep and a Sour into one refreshing drink.
