Ingredients
- 2 oz Rye whiskey
- 0.5 oz Fresh lemon juice
- 0.5 oz Fresh orange juice
- 0.5 oz Grenadine (real pomegranate)
How to make a Ward Eight
- Combine rye, lemon juice, orange juice, and grenadine in a shaker.
- Add ice and shake vigorously for 10 seconds.
- Strain into a chilled coupe glass.
- Garnish with an orange peel and brandied cherry.

Pro tip
Use real grenadine (pomegranate syrup), not the neon-red stuff. The drink should be a natural deep pink, not artificial red.
History of the Ward Eight
Created in 1898 at the Locke-Ober restaurant in Boston to celebrate Martin Lomasney's election victory in Ward Eight. It's one of the few pre-Prohibition cocktails that survived and is still made today.
