Difficulty: Intermediate ·
Family: The Daiquiri Family
Ingredients
- 2 oz London Dry Gin
- 0.75 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- 0.75 oz Simple Syrup
- 6-8 Fresh Mint Leaves
How to make a Southside
- Gently muddle mint leaves with simple syrup in a shaker.
- Add gin and lime juice.
- Add ice and shake hard for 12-15 seconds.
- Double strain into a chilled coupe glass.
- Garnish with a fresh mint sprig.
Garnish
Mint sprig.
Pro tip
Double straining is essential — nobody wants mint bits floating in their coupe. The Southside should be elegant and clean, not chunky. Slap the garnish mint between your palms before placing it.
History of the Southside
Named after the South Side of Chicago during Prohibition, where speakeasies used mint and citrus to mask the taste of bathtub gin. It became the signature drink of the 21 Club in New York.
