Pro tip
Sloe gin is a liqueur, not a standard gin. Taste it before adding syrup: some bottles are sweet enough to need lemon and soda only.
History of the Sloe Gin Fizz
Sloe gin is made by steeping small tart sloe berries in gin with sugar. The fizz version became popular because lemon and soda turn that dense, jammy liqueur into a long, refreshing drink instead of a winter sipper.
Flavour profile
Berry, Tart, Citrus, Sparkling
Variations
- Sloe Gin Rickey — Skip the syrup and use lime instead of lemon for a drier drink.
- Sloe Royale — Replace soda with chilled sparkling wine and serve in a flute.
- Sloe Gin Sour — Leave out soda and shake with egg white for a fuller, foamy serve.
