- 15 ml Fresh lime juice (Freshly squeezed)
- 15 ml Vanilla simple syrup (Rich 2:1 infusion)
How to make a Passion Fruit Martini
- Chill a coupe glass and measure all liquid ingredients into a cocktail shaker.
- Add ice cubes to the shaker and shake vigorously for approximately twelve seconds to chill and aerate.
- Double strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve into the chilled coupe glass to achieve a rich velvety foam.
- Float half a fresh passion fruit gently on top of the foam.
- Serve immediately alongside a separate shot glass filled with chilled Prosecco or Champagne.
Garnish
Float half a passion fruit on top of the foam and serve with a chilled shot of Prosecco on the side.
Pro tip
Shake vigorously with quality ice to generate a thick, stable foam layer on top of the drink, which supports the passion fruit half garnish without sinking.
History of the Passion Fruit Martini
Created in 1999 by Douglas Ankrah at the Townhouse bar in London, this flamboyant cocktail quickly became a global modern classic. Originally named the Maverick Martini after a notorious London club, it later gained widespread fame under its provocative moniker before being adopted into official bartender registries. While some accounts attribute its rapid rise to celebrity culture and avant-garde presentation, its enduring popularity stems entirely from the harmonious interplay between tropical tartness, rich vanilla aromatics, and the effervescent champagne sidecar ritual.
Flavour profile
Tropical, Sweet-Tart, Vanilla, Fruity
Variations
- Mezcal Passion Martini — Substitute artisanal mezcal for vanilla vodka to introduce a smoky, earthy dimension that contrasts the sweet tropical fruit.
- Spiced Passion Fruit Fizz — Add a dash of fiery ginger liqueur and top with club soda instead of prosecco for a lighter, spice-forward highball variation.
