Pro tip
Use fresh-squeezed OJ — the carton stuff has a cooked flavor that doesn't pair well with champagne. And keep everything cold. A warm mimosa is a sad mimosa. Equal parts is traditional, but you can adjust to taste.
History of the Mimosa
Created in 1925 at the Hôtel Ritz Paris, likely by bartender Frank Meier. Named after the mimosa flower for its golden color. It became the defining brunch cocktail of the 20th century.
Flavour profile
Citrus, Bubbly, Sweet, Light
Variations
- Buck's Fizz — The British version — 2 parts champagne to 1 part OJ
- Poinsettia — Use cranberry juice instead of orange
- Bellini — Use peach purée instead of orange juice
