Pro tip
Laird's Applejack or Bonded Apple Brandy is the traditional choice. Calvados works but gives a different (more refined) character. The drink should be a beautiful rose-pink color.
History of the Jack Rose
Popular in the early 1900s, the Jack Rose appears in Hemingway's 'The Sun Also Rises' (1926). The name likely comes from the combination of applejack and the rose color from grenadine, though some claim it's named after a gangster.
