Time: 2 min ·
Difficulty: Beginner ·
Family: The Old Fashioned Family
Ingredients
- 2 oz Blended Scotch Whisky
- 1/2 oz Amaretto
How to make a Godfather
- Add a large ice cube to a rocks glass.
- Pour in the Scotch and amaretto.
- Stir for 10 seconds to chill and lightly dilute.
- Express an orange peel over the surface if using.
- Serve slowly over the large cube.
Garnish
Orange peel, optional.
Pro tip
Start with a half-ounce of amaretto. It should smooth the Scotch, not turn the drink into almond liqueur with a splash of whisky.
History of the Godfather
The Godfather emerged in the 1970s, around the same period as the film that gave it its name. Its exact creator is unclear, but the formula survived because it is almost impossible to forget.
Flavour profile
Almond, Malt, Warm, Sweet
Variations
- Godmother — Use vodka instead of Scotch for a cleaner, sweeter serve.
- Godchild — Use half Scotch and half cream with amaretto for a dessert-style drink.
- Smoky Godfather — Use a lightly peated Scotch and reduce amaretto to 1/4 oz.
