Difficulty: Beginner ·
Family: The Sidecar Family
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oz Vodka
- 1 oz Dark Crème de Cacao
- 1/2 oz White Crème de Cacao
- 1/2 oz Heavy Cream (optional for a creamier finish)
How to make a Chocolate Martini
- Chill a martini glass.
- Add vodka, both cacao liqueurs, and cream if using to an ice-filled shaker.
- Shake hard until very cold.
- Double strain into the chilled glass.
- Garnish lightly with chocolate shavings.
Garnish
Dark chocolate shavings or a thin cocoa powder rim.
Pro tip
Use dark crème de cacao for depth. A drink built only on white cacao can turn sugary and one-dimensional fast.
History of the Chocolate Martini
The Chocolate Martini is a late twentieth-century dessert-bar classic rather than a historical Martini variation. Its staying power comes from treating chocolate as a bitter, aromatic flavor instead of just a sweet one.
Flavour profile
Chocolate, Creamy, Sweet, Boozy
Variations
- Espresso Chocolate Martini — Add 1/2 oz chilled espresso and reduce vodka slightly.
- Peppermint Chocolate Martini — Add 1/4 oz peppermint liqueur.
