Pro tip
Blood oranges are seasonal (January-April). When they're not available, use a mix of regular orange juice and a splash of pomegranate juice to approximate the color and tartness.
History of the Blood Orange Margarita
A modern variation that gained popularity in the 2010s as craft cocktail bars embraced seasonal ingredients. Blood oranges from Sicily add a berry-like tartness that regular oranges lack.
