Difficulty: Beginner ·
Family: The Highball Family
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oz Campari
- 1 1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth
- 2 oz Club Soda (or enough to top)
How to make a Americano
- Fill a highball glass completely with fresh ice.
- Pour in the Campari and sweet vermouth.
- Top with cold soda water.
- Give the drink one gentle lift with a bar spoon.
- Garnish with orange and serve immediately while the soda is lively.
Garnish
Orange slice or orange peel.
Pro tip
The soda should be opened right before it goes in. Flat soda makes the drink taste heavier and exaggerates Campari's bitterness.
History of the Americano
The Americano was served in Milan at the end of the nineteenth century, originally as the Milano-Torino. Its modern name is often linked to American travelers who favored the long, refreshing aperitivo style.
