Sonic Twisted Flamingo Recipe

Sonic's Twisted Flamingo is one of those limited-time drinks that people lose their minds over — bright pink, fruity, and gone before you get a chance to order it twice. It's basically a slush with strawberry, watermelon, and a creamy twist that makes it taste like a melted popsicle in the best way possible.
The good news: it's dead simple to recreate at home. You don't need any special equipment beyond a blender, and the ingredients are all stuff you can grab at a regular grocery store.
Ingredients
1 cup frozen strawberries. ½ cup watermelon chunks (fresh or frozen). ¼ cup cream of coconut (Coco López or similar — not coconut milk). 2 tablespoons strawberry syrup (Torani or homemade). 1 cup ice. Splash of Sprite or lemon-lime soda (about 2 oz). Whipped cream for topping (optional but recommended).
How to Make It
Add the frozen strawberries, watermelon chunks, cream of coconut, and strawberry syrup to a blender. Pour in the ice and blend on high until it reaches a smooth slush consistency — about 30-45 seconds. You want it thick enough to eat with a spoon but thin enough to drink through a wide straw.
Pour into a tall glass. Add the splash of Sprite on top — don't blend it in, just pour it over. It creates a fizzy layer that hits you first when you sip. Top with whipped cream if you're going all in.
The key to the color is the combination of strawberry and watermelon. If your version isn't pink enough, add another tablespoon of strawberry syrup. The cream of coconut gives it that milky-pink flamingo color instead of a straight red.
Why Cream of Coconut Matters
Don't substitute regular coconut milk here. Cream of coconut is thick, sweet, and almost syrupy — it's what they use in piña coladas. It gives the Twisted Flamingo that creamy body without making it taste like a smoothie. Regular coconut milk from a carton is too thin and watery.
You'll find Coco López in the cocktail mixer aisle, usually near the margarita mixes. A can lasts forever in the fridge and works in dozens of drinks.
Make It a Cocktail
Add 1.5 oz of vanilla vodka or coconut rum before blending. The strawberry-watermelon flavor masks the alcohol completely. For a more tropical direction, use Malibu coconut rum — it doubles down on the coconut without adding any harshness.
Rim the glass with pink sugar (mix granulated sugar with a drop of red food coloring) for the full Sonic presentation at home.
Storage and Batch Tips
You can make the base (everything except the Sprite and whipped cream) ahead of time and freeze it in ice cube trays. When you want a drink, pop 8-10 cubes into the blender with a splash of Sprite and blend until smooth. Takes 30 seconds and tastes just as good as fresh.
For a party batch, multiply everything by 4 and blend in two rounds. Pour into a pitcher and keep it in the freezer, stirring every 20 minutes. It stays slushy for about 2 hours before it freezes solid.
